Hello and thanks for popping by! I’m Katy, an illustrator and designer living in North Yorkshire amongst the rambling green hills and bunny rabbits.
My first ever drawing was of a daisy fairy, when I was three years old, from then on I have always had a pencil and a sheet of paper on hand – you never know when a doodle may strike. I love coloured pencils, dip pens and watercolours, but I am also very happy using my Wacom Pad to draw on the computer too. I studied Painting in Edinburgh, Fashion Design in Leeds and Knitting in Nottingham. Then, I ended up working as a Graphic Designer in London for a while! I came back to my true love of illustration and never looked back.
My style is very painterly and full of texture. I am inspired by folk art and retro colour palettes, so my work has a slightly nostalgic feel with a modern, playful twist. I hope my work inspires fun and happiness from life’s simple pleasures, with a little pinch of magic.
My very favourite things to design are characters, florals and patterns, plus I love hand-lettering too. Creating colourful characters is what I love to do best. I have a huge collection of Children’s Books, it’s too hard to pick a favourite, but I still love The Tiger Who Came To Tea by Judith Kerr, Brambly Hedge by Jill Barklem and anything by Janet and Allen Ahlberg.
When I’m not sat at my painting table I’m often found in the kitchen with a slice of Victoria Sponge Cake and a big pot of tea. I also like to go on day-dreamy walks, practice handstands in the garden or take a ballet class with friends.
